Summer Academy
We require all students to earn two enrichment credits in order to graduate. In order to help them accumulate these enrichment credits, we offer a robust Noble Street Summer Academy program. Since our inception, the summer school enrollment has averaged 50% of the student body. Summer classes must be attended by students who have failed classes and are open to all students who choose to take classes. The summer school meets for two 3-hour sessions for eight weeks. The programs offered are primarily reading and math courses, but occasionally science or social studies may be offered.
  • Noble Street has incorporated a new reading curriculum entitled Reading is FAME®. Boystown of Nebraska developed this curriculum for high school students reading below grade-level. The FAME program teaches four specific reading skills through each of its four classes – Foundations (fluency), Adventures (comprehension), Mastery (vocabulary), and Explorations (researching skills).
  • During the summer, the Noble Street Summer Academy typically offers two different reading classes, five levels of math, physical education, Russian, science, and three elective classes. Over 200 students enroll in the Summer Academy, of which more than 70% enroll for enrichment credit, not make-up credit. In addition, all incoming freshman are tested in five different areas of reading (comprehension, fluency, spelling, vocabulary, and word recognition) and three different areas of math (pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry).
  • The Right Angle Foundation also sponsors many of our students to study at colleges across the country for 3 to 6 week periods during the summer. Students earn elective credits for enrolling and completing these summer study programs. Noble Street students have studied at colleges such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Georgetown, Cambridge, UCLA and Michigan.
